Hi everyone! Welcome to Mike Bakes NYC—I'm glad you're here! I'm Mike Johnson, the recipe developer, cookbook author, food photographer, and content creator behind @mikebakesnyc.

I started this blog in 2016 while in law school as a creative outlet, combining my love of photography with my insatiable sweet tooth. That creative passion led to my first cookbook, Even Better Brownies, which I published in 2020 while still practicing as an attorney. Shortly after that book came out, I made the leap to leave law and focus entirely on Mike Bakes NYC. During those years dedicated to baking, I published my second cookbook, Simple Small-Batch Baking, and my third cookbook, Baked & Buzzed, which was released in August 2025!

I've recently returned to practicing law full-time (as of September 2025!), while continuing to create all the recipes, photography, and content you see here on Mike Bakes NYC and in my newsletter. It's an exciting new chapter balancing both passions! Check out my mentions in the press.
